Laura Anderson, LPCC
Licensed Professional Counselor | Eff Shame Therapy, LPCC
Hi, I’m Laura (she/her). I started Eff Shame Therapy because I believe shame is at the root of most of what brings people to therapy — and because I think it deserves to be named directly rather than tiptoed around. We are living in a world that generates shame faster than most of us can process it, and many of us are carrying wounds from abuse, trauma, and systemic harm that have never had a real place to land and heal.
I work with adults who are ready to stop managing their pain and start actually moving through it. My approach is trauma-informed, shame-free, and genuinely collaborative — I bring some of the most effective healing tools available including EMDR, Flash Technique, and ketamine-assisted EMDR, and I meet you exactly where you are.
Why did you become a therapist?
Well that’s a great question. And guess what, the answer is ‘Its complicated.’ Hahaha (Isn’t this the answer to every question?) Finding this direction for myself took lots of searching and floundering and growing. I actually majored in mathematics for my undergrad degree, spent some years trying different things, and was in my mid-thirties before starting grad school in counseling. Having been in practice over ten years now and I’ve never regretted it! I’m daily enticed by the endless room for learning the craft. I feel lucky and honored to get to contribute to the world in a meaningful way which challenges me to be the best I can be for each client.
OK but really….who are you???
Well I started work as a therapist in community mental health which I loved and stayed in for almost ten years. During that time I was fortunate to get to start and run multiple groups and work with a plethora of diverse populations including those involved with the criminal justice system, dealing with poverty, homelessness, racism, sexism, classism, (OK all the isms!), limited access to resources, domestic violence, and substance abuse. I had the honor of facilitating both substance use and mental and behavioral health IOPS for many years and transitioning to fully virtual during the pandemic. I am completing certification in sexuality therapy through the Sexual Health Alliance and have developed specialized skills in psychedelic-assisted therapy including ketamine-assisted EMDR I’m a lifelong learner and love getting to do things to help others heal every day!
